The workshop aims at:
- Having a better knowledge in lighting design for theatre live performances (concerts/ fashion shows/ dance performances) and installations.
- Discussing the importance of lighting design in the creation process.
- Discussing some clues in how the lighting design is approached conceptually.
- Discussing the influences of light design within scenography
- Discussing Light Installations and their presence in the artistic realm
Target Applicants:

Target applicants vary from professionals, students, to beginners. This workshop can help beginners in understanding light design and its process. It can also be an inspiration for professionals in giving a new insight/ view to light design.

The Workshop will be in two forms: theoretical and practical:
The Theoretical form:
The history of lighting design in theatre, how it started and evolved. Explaining the kinds of light projectors and the difference between them. Talking about the ways a director would think in dealing with lights, the interaction between the director and the lighting designer in the creation process, Getting texts, music, paintings and thinking of them in terms of lights. Light as an element as its own, its metaphysical presence and the rise of light installations.
The Practical form:
Demonstrating the light projectors; each applicant or group of applicants will have time to conceptually develop a small light design project.

The language can be in both Arabic and English depending on the applicants’ background and preference.

Biography
alaa minawi
alaa minawi (beirut - 1982) is a palestinian - lebanese visual artist based in amsterdam, netherlands. he has worked in more than 300 performances as a performer, light designer, and scenographer. he was a member of the lighting designers association (london,uk) between 2015 and 2018.
degrees:
- ba in communication arts from the lebanese american university, lebanon (2008)
- ma in fine arts, scenography, and design from hogeschool voor de kunsten utrecht, netherlands (2018)
- certificate to train in lighting design from rada (royal academy for dramatic arts) since 2009.
since 2010, alaa started experimenting with light sources in an attempt to understand their influence. These experimentations lead to a shift in his career towards creating his own installations using his technical and design skills that he attained in the previous years.

- 2013 "beyond myself..." - amsterdam, netherland
- 2014, "my light is your light..." premiered Amsterdam still doing its world tour.
- 2016 “the bride" beirut, lebanon.

he was nominated for best light art award by d’arc award, london, uk. (2016)
his artwork my light is your light is registered in unesco year of light (2015)
since 2016, alaa shifted towards an artistic research starting with one about belonging and its relationship to physical spaces.

الناحية النظرية
لمحة تاريخية عن تصميم الإضاءة، كيف بدأت وتطورت. شرح عن أنواع الإضاءة المستعملة والفرق بينها وكيفية تفكير المخرج بتصميم الإضاءة والتفاعل بين المخرج ومصمم الإضاءة خلال عملية بناء العمل الفني. الاستحصال على نصوص، موسيقى، رسومات، والتفكير فيها من ناحية الضوء
والحديث عن صعود التجهيزات الضوئية
الناحية العملية
عرض عملي لأنواع الإضاءة. كل متقدّم سوف يقوم يتصميم عمل إضاءة صغيرة

علاء ميناوي (بيروت - 1982) هو فنان فلسطيني - لبناني فلسطيني مقيم في أمستردام ، هولندا. وقد عمل في أكثر من 300 عرض كممثل ، ومصمم إضاءة ، و سينوغرافي. كان عضوًا في جمعية مصممي الإضاءة (لندن ، المملكة المتحدة) بين عامي 2015 و 2018.
