AD Leb is pleased to announce the opening of Hatem Imam's solo exhibition, Slumber's Tongues.

Hatem Imam has spent the last six months painting. Using elaborate installation strategies, Imam’s show, his most ambitious to date, introduces not only the results of his labor, but also the concerns that pervaded his process.
If landscape can be regarded as sublimated self-portraiture that emerges as a result of estrangement, how then can we perceive scenes displaying an amalgam of body and place: a figure emerging from or sepulchered in a nebulous vista; a growth, possibly a body part; a rock formation; or simply a dab of paint? Looking at an image that teeters on the threshold of abstraction and figuration induces the anxiety of tightrope walking. Our eyes, like our hands, will reach for places or bodies to settle in.
Save the date: 5pm on Thursday, July 13th at the new Metro Al Madina in Aresco Palace. The exhibition will run for a week, until July 20th.

هذا ما فعله حاتم الإمام خلال الأشهر الستّ الأخيرة.
هذا العرض، وهو الأكثر طموحاً بين أعماله، لا يُظهر خلاصة هذه الأشهر فقط، بل يعرض أيضاً التساؤلات والشكوك التي سادت على عمليّة الإنتاج، بواسطة خطّة محكمة من التركيب والتجهيز.
إن كنّا نُقارب المشهد الطبيعي كصورةٍ ذاتية متسامية— صورةٌ تُنتَج عبر المسافة والاغتراب، فكيف لنا أن نُقارب مشهداً يصهر الأجساد بالأماكن؟ أهو شكلٌ ينتؤْ من أفقٍ غامض أو يقبع في قعره؟ نموٌّ غريب؟ ربّما أجزاء من جسد؟ تكوينٌ صخري؟ أو مجرّد لطخة طلاء؟ هذا الرسم المتأرجح على العتبة الفاصلة بين التجريد والتصوير، يُنتج قلقاً لدى المشاهد، شبيهاً بقلق السير على حبلٍ رفيع. تحت وطأة هذا القلق، أعينُنا كما أيدينا، تمتدّ تلقائياً كي تتشبّث بالأماكن والأجساد، وتأوي إليها.
